What's Your Word for 2009?

I've never been one for New Year's resolutions, and I had enough of goals and objectives when I was in my corporate career than I care to remember.

But a "word" for the year...hmmmm....

I belong to a couple of online forums and one of the discussions was "What is your word for the year?" The poster's word was "Focus", another poster was "Faith", another "Growth". I started thinking....hmmm....

I've decided on my word, LIVE! It seems since my Dad passed away in 2005, my son got sick in early 2007, and I turned 60 last August mostly I've thought about death. I don't mean in a morbid sense, but my thoughts have been focused on holding on, reminding myself to breath, the time that's left, not rocking the boat.

So it's going to take some different thinking to LIVE!

What's your word? Do you want to share it here? I would love to hear why you picked the word, but don't tell me what you plan to do. I hate when I have to think about being spontaneous....my husband is one of those that says, "I don't mind being spontaneous if you give me a little notice ahead of time." AAAAAGGHHHHH!

Towards the end of each month I'll post what things I think qualify for fulfilling my "word", and ask how you are doing.

I've been asking people I run into today...so far only my friends at Starbucks ;-)...the youngest of the women who is single said "Love", the young mother with two kids said "Sleep", how age appropriate it seems our words can be.

This little ballerina knows how to LIVE! No guilt, no fear of what people think. Only fun, food, learning, love and hugs....and pooping....are on her radar screen.

Do you even sometimes get so sidetracked in life you forget to poop?

Now there was me thinking your word was "Hmmmmmmmmm"!

I can totally identify with the goals and objectives thing and I'm weening myself away. This year (1st Jan post) I put the emphasis on principles.

I'm not quite sure I'm ready for one word - although I'm finding that a constant theme is REFLECT

Beth, I can only imagine a teacher with teen-almost-adult children of her own would be under a lot of stress. Let the cares fall away my dear and DESTRESS. I like SIMPLIFY also.

Hmmmmm would be a great principle!
I'm not sure how you keep Making A Mark so fresh and new, always thinking ahead to the next posts. REFLECT seems a perfect word-or-theme for you.

Thanks for sharing you guys!

My husband who bless his heart absolutely hates this kind of thing actually gave me his word last night after thinking about it for a couple of hours...REVITALIZE!
I was so proud of him.

Great Post, i like your post LIVE!. While i have done a large amount of planning for 2009, i feel like i have to give direction. My underlying thoughts of ALL of it are to live and have fun while i am doing it. We can so often get caught up in it all. Can i use your word as well ? :)

Cindy,
Great post; it sounds like you have a very good outlook for the new year. I'd have to say my word is "Calm", something that often eludes me.

Hi Belinda! Yes, you can definitely use my word! We'll LIVE in togetherness ;-)

CALM it is Holly!

I had a very full day today. My first LAC Board meeting as President and a 3 hour pastel class this afternoon. I could have moaned and groaned about sooooo much to do, but I decided to focus on each minute wonderful new minute, tell my friends and family that I love them and why, and finish off the day with chocolate.

My house needs cleaning and my paperwork is piling up, but I LIVED today!

And my word is ENJOY ! Enjoy every little thing in your life. We often think about our daily life with all its problems (stress at work, at home, ...) and forget to enjoy the beautiful sky of a Sunday morning (f.g.) ...
And better than enjoy it alone, SHARE !

Hi Catherine, It's so good to hear from you! I hope all is well.

Love your words, ENJOY and SHARE. Yes, we can walk through life and never notice any of the beauty that's waiting for us. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, everything is fine, thank you Cindy. I am currently preparing my exhibitions for 2009 and working on new series in watercolour and mixed media.

I recently worked on a mixed media composition, with watercolor and colored pencil. I hope you will have some time to visit my blog and give me your opinion about it (here is the direct link : http://walkonwater.canalblog.com/archives/2008/12/15/11763770.html).

I wish you an excellent year 2009. See you soon !
