Yellow Pepper Top Finished

I started this piece a couple of posts ago with my new Prisma markers intending to use colored pencil to finish over the top of the markers. However........my edges in the pepper from yellow to orange to red were too hard-edged to cover with the cp's. (That's why we do these experiments :-)

So after stewing over it a couple of days I decided to cry "uncle" and finish it in soft pastels. I have seen some beautiful energetic works using a "broken color" technique. I'm not sure the texture of the pastel stroke suits the texture of the pepper, but when you stand away from it the colors blend quite nicely.

It was alot of fun to do and got me out of my funk over my failed marker/cp experiment!!

That and getting adjusted to having my new braces in. I'm a light sleeper and I wake up about every 10 minutes thinking something is in my mouth.....oh, really? They ache and I've already had to have them repaired...but I do like the way they look.

Cindy-
I love the way the color shimmers with light. It's a beautiful example of impressionism.
Thanks for your inspiration. I tried a technique you described earler this year - white Prismacolor on black, then use colors over the top. I did purple coneflowers on black MiTients paper. It was accepted in a local juried show which openned last night. I worked on that while I was too ill to stand and paint, which is my usual habit. Thanks to you, I had something different that got into this show. Blessings to you.

Hi Cindy,

I'm glad that you didn't give up. As Regina says, the pastel gives a shimmery quality to the work. Great job with your stroke technique!

Hi Cindy,

This really sparkles! The colors are bouncing off the page and makes me want to look even closer! What kind of paper did you paint this on? Did the pastel stick to the surface well enough?

All my best,
Brenda

I love the light in this Cindy. That broken colour works so well. It makes me want to break out some pastels and have a go!

Thank you Teresa! I'm hoping to do more paintings in this manner....a little classical music in the background...what a joy to work on.

Brenda, thanks so much for coming on over and checking out my pastel. I love to watch your blog for your new paintings....you are my pastel inspiration. This was done on a 5 x 7" Ampersand Pastelbord and I used mostly Ludwigs so they adhered really well to the surface.

Hi Jeanette! Oh, I hope you try some pastels. I just love your drawings and love to see what you would do with pastels. Thanks so much for your comments.
