Work in Progress..Peaches and Copper Bowl

"Work in Progress-Peaches and Copper Bowl"

6 x 6" Oil on Gessobord

Got a good start on this today, but the studio was pretty warm...so had to call it a day. Will try to finish tomorrow. This is how I start all my paintings, drawing in a value study with burnt umber. Then I begin to add color, like the start of the copper bowl and the dark background. The value study makes it much easier to add color...so I'm not trying to do to many steps at one time.

This is the first 8 x 10 I've finished in one session....which means I have to paint faster and with bigger brushes. But I'm happy with the outcome and hope to paint a few more bigger ones until it becomes second nature.

Chit Chat Cherries

"Chit Chat" 5 x 7" oil on Gessobord

Lovely day today...June brought in Norah Jones CD and it's great music to paint to.

The bag of cherries I bought the other day has really dark cherries in it (really sweet), and the lighter one are a bit tarter. There's nothing more fun than painting cherries and red!

They can look like little people to me, this one reminds me of little groups of people chit-chatting.

Empty on the Inside

"Empty" 5 x 5" Oil on Gessobord

On Saturday my painting was about peeking inside a pepper (say that 10 times) and finding some beautiful color and shapes. Today's painting is about peeking inside and finding.....well....nothing.

Some days are like that...you look inside and find a wealth of inspiration to paint from and some days you find...well....nothing. That could be positive or negative. Hmmm...there must be a physics principle in there somewhere.

Half a Pepper Later

"Peek Inside" 6 x 6 Oil on Gessobord

I decided to start with a challenge this morning. I cut this pepper open and couldn't believe what beautiful shapes and colors were inside. Although it looked quite daunting for this beginner oil painter (6 mos now), with a little determination and help from June, I managed to finish up very happy with this one.

I love painting! Yesterday was quite difficult, some days are like that. But today was a joy....

Cherries are Back!

"Chubby Cherry" 5 x 5" oil on Gessobord
SOLD

I stopped in the grocery store this morning looking for something to paint, and to my delight the cherries are now back in the produce department. So I bought a big bag of sweet cherries and headed for the studio. Painted "Chubby Cherry" first thing and then have been trying out some other objects and doing some photographs. I ate more cherries than I painted today!

I think these cherries are so cute, this one looks like a little round bottom!

Aging Strawberries

"Make Me Look Good" 6 x 6 Oil on Gessobord

These strawberries were ready for the trash this morning. But I brought them to the studio to see if I could salvage enough to paint. These three begged to be painted and demanded to be painted in a way that would make them look good!

I know how it feels to want to look good and there's not much hope. We live in a lovely townhome complex with a swimming pool that just opened. My two year old granddaughter, lovely Emma, will want me to swim with her. Which means.....gahhhhh......I have to find a bathing suit. I went on Monday and didn't come home with one. I tried on a couple or rather they strangled me, so frustrated that I didn't even bother to put them back on the hanger. Just walked out in disgust. I did find two swimsuits that I liked online....seems to be the only place where you can get an adult-designed plus-size swimming suit.

The saga continues...when the package arrives in the mail...I'll let you know how it turned out...or not.
