Fuego Azul

The agave painting is done! I had to switch back to my Coloursoft pencils. The coverage I was getting from my Lightfast Prismacolors just wasn't what I wanted.

Now time to move on to the next painting. Not sure what that will be just yet...but I'm already to start a new one.

Thanks for your feedback! (Hi Bernice! Julie said you have been watching my blog ;-)

My goodness Cindy, the painting is so striking on the computer, I can only imagine the impact in its 11 x 14 size!
I am wowed by the colours of course, but I also appreciate your choice of subject, the composition of the piece, as well as how you dealt with the background material in the photo. Excellent choices that resulted in a very unique painting. Thank you for sharing the process with us.

Zingy!!!

Agave make such wonderful subjects don't they? I went off on a complete month of cacti and succulents when I did one! It's their wonderful abstract patterning which got me going.

I'm intrigued by your comment that the Lightfast Prismacolors didn't give you the coverage. Was it just some colours or was it the range generally?

Do you think maybe it might be something to do with the fact that some pencils love the pastelbord and some don't?

Thank Katherine! I used primarily LF Prismas in the background, which had Inktense used as the underpainting. I was happy with what was happening.

The agave itself was underpainted with Neocolor II's. It seemed that was where I was having my problems. So it could be a combination of the board, the underpainting and user patience ;-)
