Peach with Neocolor II Crayons

I wanted to try the Neocolor II watersoluble crayons as an underpainting for colored pencil. I have a small set so I might be more picky in the colors I would select. I chose the blue because it is the complement for orange and would make a nice shadow color.

The rest of the colors chosen were analogous to the finished color. As I was working I learned you can put more Neocolor over the top of the cp which helped alot. And I used a stiff bristle brush to scrub in the colors.

In this first picture the dark background has black Neocolor, Tuscan Red, Dark Green, and Indigo Blue applied. I repeated the process a couple of times as I smushed in the color with the brush.

The second picture is the finished product. I must say I was pleased with the Neocolors and the Pastelboard (my first time for both).

Wow, impressive, Cindy. Bravo! More, more.

May I have your permission to post a link to this post from my Squidoo lens for Neocolor II?

Thank you Fannie! Of course you can post a link, thanks so much for asking :)

I'm trying to get an idea of what I want to try for my next subject with the Neos. I love them, they are sooooo versatile.

I also learned from Scribbletalk that you can use the Neos over the cp as well as under. Sooooo helpful.

Incredible, your working process is simply incredible ! I mean that I see thie first picture, then the second and I just fell in love with your drawing ! Congratulations !

I received the big set of Neocolors II for Christmas but I haven't already tried to work with these. I think you should obtain wonderful results with colored landscapes, like rising / setting sun.

Thank you so much Catherine! I appreciate your feedback.

Yes, I have always found landscapes difficult to pull off in colored pencil....so I'm hoping that landscapes will be a subject I can approach with more confidence.

I might just have to buy the big set of Neocolors!

Fabulous! Just discovered your blog & love your work. I have the Neocolor II - mostly used on their own on wc paper & also for textile art. Love this idea for underpainting as I am a novice with colored pencils.
Thanks for the details you share.
