Cherry and Brown Bottle
Such a sad day for the city of Aurora and the whole state of Colorado. Painting was my form of prayer, meditation and processing the news. My prayers are for all of the victims, their families, the wounded and traumatized.

Still Hot!
"Cherry-osity" 5 x 5 Oil on Gessobord SOLD |
I did manage to stick my nose out the door today to run to the store for a new bag of cherries and a Starbucks latte.
I'm getting prepared for the Colored Pencil Society of America's 20th Annual International Exhibition and Convention in Greater Cincinnati. I'll be gone from July 30-August 5, and won't be able to paint. I might have to take up meditation during that time, since I can't paint for my mental health.

While she's at pre-school (Panda School is what she calls it), Grandma had time to set a cherry up and put some paint on the board. Whew....time for a nap! She'll be home soon and the world will spin much faster than I'm accustomed to.

Blue Cup and Cherries
I have officially declared July to be Cherry month. Each painting this month will contain cherries, giving me some constraints that will push my creativity. Some of the latest reading I've done on creativity says that having to work within limits is good.....I'm game!
Just to make it even more fun, I've set up a Pinterest Board called Chubby Cherry with all things cherries, my most recent cherry paintings, cherry recipes, cherry history and some fun cherry products.
I'm thinking August might be Citrus month and September would be Apple Month. This could be really fun!

Love Painting Cherries
Lovely weather brings me back to the studio with a big bag of cherries purchased yesterday. Eat a few cherries, paint a few cherries!

So Hot!
The heat has been oppressive to say the least. While we are fortunate the fires are a good ways away from us, the heat and low humidty have made for some uncomfortable days and night. Most vegetation has been baked, including my pansy pots on the patio.
While the larger pots seem to hold their own when watered daily (sometimes twice), the smaller pots just can't keep the heat out and the foliage looks like someone torched it.
No A/C at the studio means I paint at home. I tried to paint at the studio last Wednesday and I managed to take some still life photos before I threw in the towel. My brain shuts down at a certain temperature I'm sure.
These two small oils were painted on Friday here at my dining room table, just to get back into my routine of oil painting. I've been working on pastels for a few months now. I did have a major "wipe off that Gessobord surface..that's a horrible painting" moment halfway through the session, but regrouped when I was back to a blank surface staring back at me.
So happy and comforting to be back at my oils.....
