My art partner, June, is entertaining family and friends this weekend as her son is getting married. So it was just me today at the studio (along with Carole King and her Living Room CD).

Pastel Workshop and Fuzzy Peaches

"Fuzzy Peaches" 8 x 10 Pastel on Pastelbord (Work in Progress)

Yesterday, my art partner, June Davis, and I taught a basic pastel workshop at our local Lakewood Arts Council. We had a wonderful group of students, very eager to learn, what could be better?

June did a demo in the morning to get them started and I started this painting as a demo in the afternoon. I tend to like to scribble my pastels and I had great fun putting my energy into this one.

Relaxing this weekend, so I can hit the studio on Monday (OK maybe tomorrow).

Two Paintings Today

"Orange Pepper" 4 x 4 Oil on Gessobord
SOLD

"Red Plums" 4 x 4 Oil on Gessobord
SOLD

I took a couple of days off from daily painting to work on my colored pencil experiment, and Oh how I missed my oil paints. I hadn't seen the red plums in the produce section for a while so snatched them up. This is my first time for painting plums and I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.

Mandarins and Tulip Bowl Take a Zig Instead of a Zag

My last update to this piece was on Christmas Eve! It had a wee bit of oil paint added since then (see the first photo up in this post. But I could never get around to finishing it. I oil paint so much differently now than when I started this. A CPSA friend of mine, Melissa Miller Nece, combined oil paint and colored pencil with her entry into CPSA's ET!7 I was so intrigued with the idea that I decided to try some colored pencil over the top of the oil paint on this painting. I'm somewhat happy with the results, but there is definitely more work to do. I will share the finished piece with you in the next couple of days.

The background is the only thing with colored pencil

The leaves, orange and tulip bowl have had some cp applied

The table top and left hand rock have not had any cp applied

Asparagus (or the Blue Rubberband)

"Asparagus" 6 x 6 Oil on Gessobord
SOLD (and lost to the great USPS in the sky)

After a really lovely Mother's Day, it was back in the studio this morning. This painting was for the Daily Paintworks Challenge - Paint Your Vegetable. This is the first time I have painted asparagus in oil, so it was a challenge in observation for me. As always I look for the lights and darks and try to paint those more importantly than the object itself.

Hello Again...

I took a few days off from posting to my blog, just too much going on. Let's see there was the dermatologist (all good news), the optometrist (new fun glasses), and a B-12 shot (I have grown to love these after the last 10 years.)

Last Saturday, June and I hung an exhibit of Small Works in Oil at the Higher Grounds Cafe in Golden. If you are in the Golden, CO area here is the info and would love to have you stop by.

The daily paintings are still going on...here is one from today:
